Michelle Bellamy, Nutritionist
Michelle's interest in nutrition started when she gained more than 10kg in one year owing to undiagnosed food tolerances and poor nutrition from a live-in job. Her interest soon became a passion, choosing to formally study nutrition to learn how food effects our health. She is the founder of Passionate Health
1. Why did you choose your career path?
It chose me really! It was a progression from knowing systems within my own body weren't operating optimally, so I enrolled in a nutrition degree to learn all about it.
2. What does your typical work day look like?
This is variable, as I am working on a few different projects in life currently. When I am seeing clients, I thoroughly research and pre-prepare a lot of the information, which may include putting together a longer term treatment plan. That way during their visit, more time is spent gathering information and speaking about where the client is at and what their needs are. It is very interactive and includes education on whatever topic they desire to learn more about. This could be through our conversation or take home information.
3. What is your opinion on the importance of responding to customer comments and reviews on Whitecoat?
If a client or potential customer has reached out on the Whitecoat platform, they want answers to their questions or are providing valuable feedback. Therefore I think it is crucially important and respectful to respond promptly.
4. What is the best part of your job?
Helping people through education and seeing them get better and feel empowered.
5. What has been your biggest career achievement or proud moment?
It is ongoing process as I specialise in Food Intolerances after having a few of my own. It has been a journey of learning and recovery, so now I get to help others on that same path.
6. If you didn’t choose your career path, which profession would you have chosen to pursue?
I have since commenced helping out in School Community Gardens as I felt a nutritionist should know how to grow their own fruit and vegetables. I find this immensly rewarding, especially with the children there. But also the meditative or nuturing qualitly of working outside getting your hands dirty. I will continue my studies into permaculture, and to supplement that I could easily be a Yin or Restorative yoga teacher as well.
7. If you could choose someone to play you in a movie, who would it be and why?
I have been told I looked like Meg Ryan in the past so she could be one choice. But I think that maybe Cate Blanchett is a better choice so it is not so much of a rom-com.
8. If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?
Mind power for the good of the planet and its inhabitants. Then you could influence anyone anywhere in the world to become an expert and help do good in their lifetime.
9. If you were on death row, what would your last meal be?
I love a meal of good nacho's with all of the trimmings and perhaps a cocktail or two. Also some decadence such as chocolate mousse and fresh berries. This is just one example, I like a lot of different foods.
10. What is your favourite book?
Sophie's World by Jostein Gaarder. It is a philosophical book written through the eyes of a young girl.
