Sona graduated in Bachelor of Dental Surgery in 1992. In 2005, he obtained a post graduate qualification MFGDP (UK). The Membership of Faculty of General Dental Practicner from England. In the same year, he also obtained the MFDS RCS. The Membership of Faculty of Dental Surgeons- Royal College of Surgeons and Physicians of Glasgow.
Before coming to Sydney Australia in 2006, he and his wife had successful dental practice in Kathmandu, Nepal from 1994 to 2005. He landed his first job in Australia was with Queensland Health, Townsville. Sona was also a tutor with Westmead Dental Hospital (Sydney University) and University of Queensland. Dr Chengappa co-owns two dental clinics with his wife Dr Shagun Chengappa, located here in Richmond and at Kings Langley.
