Following service in the Royal Australian Navy in 1956, with active service during the
Malaya campaign, Robert’s police career began with the Victoria State Police, followed by
the Royal Papua and New Guinea Constabulary, and the Australian Capital Territory (now
Federal) Police. He was variously assigned to general duties, the Criminal Investigation
Branch, Police Prosecution Branch, and District Inspector.
A long-term body builder, Robert was formerly a member of the Victoria Police Wrestling
Team; attained Black Belt status in Taekwondo, and was Physical Training and Unarmed
Combat Instructor for the ACT (Federal) Police.
He is the recipient of five service medals; the Australian Active Service Medal, Australian
Defence Medal, Australian National Service Medal, Australian Police Overseas Service
Medal, and the Royal Papua and New Guinea Constabulary Centenary Medal.
