I have been a diabetes specialist since 1980. I was the inaugural Director of Medical Services of the International Diabetes Institute (now Baker) from 1986 until 2007, but now concentrate on my private practice. I work with a great team, including diabetes educators and dietitians at the Baker Heart & Diabetes Institute. I pioneered the introduction of self-blood glucose monitoring in Australia, and developed a wide range of educational and professional resources, including a postgraduate training program for general practitioners. I am author of 60 publications, including Handbook of Diabetes Management, now in it's 8th edition, and most recently was senior author of the booklet FlexIT – flexible insulin therapy for Type 1 diabetes.
