Clinical psychologist in the field for on three decades. Sarron has long been involved in the training of mental health professionals be it in tertiary training institutions or through a range of supervisory contexts. Previously he worked in the School of Psychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences at the UWA. Presently, besides running a small private practice, he is the Coordinator of the Counselling and Psychotherapy Programme at Edith Cowan Uni. In Australia, striking is the hegemonic CBT, scientist-practitioner sensibility that frames the context in which clinicians work. Sarron, notwithstanding, holds strongly to the view that a psychoanalytic approach has much to offer 21st century West Australians; be it a compelling ways to consider our most private selves, innovations in short-term evidence-based forms of psychoanalytic practice (e.g. Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy/Mentalisation based treatment) or productive ways to engage life online, amongst other things.
